Jill Grossman is an incredible alumni that embodies exactly what being a CCS Volunteer is about. Through her volunteer trip to Tanzania, Jill was deeply impacted by what she saw. Being exposed to such a different culture and having the opportunity to work with underserved populations sparked something within her. Following her CCS trip, she began researching how she could continue to make an impact, and worked to receive her Master’s in Holocaust and Genocide Studies and went on to work for an African Non-Profit.

At CCS, we work alongside an incredible In-Country team who knows the needs of their local communities. Our In-Country Presidents are so grateful for the work of our volunteers that make an incredible impact in their local community. They guide our volunteers in getting to know the communities and choosing volunteer assignments to assure that we make the most meaningful change. Jessica Rios, a Physical Therapy student, from Illinois Central College (ICC) was always interested in traveling internationally, but hadn’t had many opportunities to do so. Since launching our Refugee Program in Greece in June of this year, we’ve witnessed the incredible impact of over 100 dedicated CCS volunteers! One crucial project that CCS volunteers contribute to is the sustainable day-to-day operations of the Ritsona camp’s distribution center. We caught up with current CCS Greece volunteer Miranda Coombe, to learn more about her experience volunteering in the distribution center, and the impact CCS volunteers and donors are making there.
