Visit the Wonders of the World with Cross-Cultural Solutions
The Seven Wonders of the World are some of the most sought-after travel experiences around, and lucky for you, Cross-Cultural Solutions offers volunteer opportunities within traveling distance of some of these epic sites. So if you're trying to figure out just where to kick off your life of international exploration and volunteer travel, why not start with one of these:
Volunteer in India and Take in the Taj Mahal
Once you've finished several weeks of volunteering in India, save a day or two for a visit to the Taj Mahal. Travel a few hours outside of New Delhi to visit the Taj Mahal in Agra, and you can spend the day exploring India's sparkling jewel. The Taj opens at sunrise and if you make the effort to arrive early, you'll be rewarded with fewer visitors and the incredible early morning display of sunlight as it dances all along the palace facade. Spend the day taking in the grandeur of the Taj and let the transformation of the white marble dazzle you as it changes from pale yellow at dawn, to a deep gold at sunset. Return after dinner to catch the palace in the blue light of the moon.
Volunteer in Peru and Explore Machu Picchu
After you complete your CCS volunteer Peru program, why not take a hike? Lace up your hiking boots and hike the four-day Inca Trail from Cusco, Peru to reach Machu Picchu's sun gate just in time for a once-in-a-lifetime sunrise over the nearly 600 year-old Incan ruins. You can also choose a one-day hike or a train ride to get you there, but be sure to allow yourself a couple of days to explore the entire complex. Wander through the ruins of the temples and see for yourself why Machu Picchu is a wonder of the world; a true cultural and historic gem perched atop the Peruvian Andes. If Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail are on your "must-see" list, make sure to plan your volunteer experience during the dry season—June-September—to ensure that the site will be accessible.
Volunteer in Brazil and Experience Christ the Redeemer
What better way to complement an amazing Brazil volunteer experience than with a visit to one of the most well-known statues in the world. Climb to the top of Rio's Corcovado Mountain to find Christ the Redeemer—Brazil's Wonder of the World—with arms outstretched and spanning nearly 100 feet. You can reach the statue by tram, car, or by foot for an amazing history lesson, and a view to match. Completed in 1931 and restored in 2010, the statue offers something for every kind of traveler. Whether you're in search of a spiritual experience, a breathtaking view, a challenging climb, or a fascinating history lesson, a visit to Christ the Redeemer won't disappoint.
