Your gap experience is a full and well-rounded immersive adventure to explore new cultures and countries in a deep and unique way. As CCS gap years are rooted in service, the core of your experience will be centered on your volunteer work. As a gap year participant, you can choose your volunteer opportunity for each of your destinations, so you know you’ll be immersed in a project that is meaningful and impactful.

Of course, your gap year should also be filled with adventure and incredible experiences, and we’ve got plenty of those! Most afternoons, you’ll participate in CCS Cultural & Learning Activities, which are unique ways to get to know about a culture and its people. Whether you’re learning to make tortillas at the base of a volcano in Guatemala, exploring religion and belief systems in India with local experts, or practicing your batik-making skills in Tanzania, your gap experience will be filled with one-of-a-kind opportunities. Interested in learning a new language? We also provide language lessons in each of our locations, as well as reflection sessions so you can process your experience every step of the way with the guidance of our expert in-country staff.

And, there’s amazing opportunities for free time to learn and grow independently. Many volunteers choose to spend their free time at the Home-Base, getting to know the local community better and developing local friendships. Or, join your group for an amazing weekend excursion, where you might find yourself in a desert oasis in Peru, on Cape Coast in Ghana, or navigating the winding medinas of Fes in Morocco.

No matter which experience you select, you can be sure that your gap year will be filled with incredible adventures and meaningful experiences that are off the beaten tourist path!
