Why I chose Cross-Cultural Solutions and Costa Rica.

I always had a dream of volunteering, traveling and immersing myself into another culture. I had heard wonderful things about the Peace Corps but knew that a 27-month commitment was way more than I was interested in at this phase in my life. I took to the internet and stumbled upon Cross-Cultural Solutions (CCS).

With a little more research, I was hooked. Cross-Cultural Solutions (CCS) offered a variety of timelines and locations so that I could customize my experience. I decided that 3 months would offer me the volunteer opportunity I was looking for.

I had a strong interest in Latin America and chose Costa Rica as my location. Cross-Cultural Solutions (CCS) connected me with Danielle, my Program Site Specialist. Her insight and knowledge of Costa Rica really helped to confirm this decision. Danielle told me how warm and inviting the in-country staff would be, and that the people in the community were also just as hospitable. Although I was a little intimidated by the language barrier, I was assured that CCS provided basic language lessons, as well as exciting Cultural and Learning Activities. During the weekends, I would be able to visit Irazu Volcano National Park, as well as the many beaches of Costa Rica. I was very excited!

Next step, I had the daunting question of how on Earth I would ever come up with the money to cover my program fee and make my dream come true. With a lot of brainstorming and immense help from my mom, I planned out my fundraising strategy. After all, it was up to me to make my dream come true.
