We know you’re unique and that you have your own interests, which is why we offer specialized volunteer paths that you can choose from. Select a focus in Global Education or Sports Leadership. Follow your passion and explore how you can make the world a better place.

Sports Leadership
Sports and recreation not only benefits health, they also provides valuable incentive and leadership skills that keep students engaged in school. Your work assignment in Costa Rica lacks a safe and healthy sports space for students, so with your fellow high school volunteers, you will improve a sports area for soccer, volleyball, and basketball. Afterward, you will coach teams of students on these new fields. Available in Costa Rica on the August 4, 2018 start date.

Global Education
Help create a more positive learning environment, improve attendance rates and reducing drop-out rates in Costa Rican schools. With your fellow high school volunteers, you will lead English workshops for students with engaging games and activities that empowers brighter futures. Additionally, you will make tangible infrastructure changes to schools through improving a library facility and the construction of a recycling center. Available in Costa Rica on the June 23, 2018 and July 7, 2018 start dates.

Health

Many under resourced schools in Guanacaste lack the basic health infrastructure and services essential to meet child health goals and support proper nutrition. As a CCS high school volunteer, you will improve the school garden with the construction of pallets, signs, and an irrigation system while teaching students about nutrition. In addition, volunteers will construct a wash station for the school to improve hygiene and prevent disease. Available in Costa Rica on the July 21, 2018 start date.

As a High School Volunteer Abroad in Costa Rica, you’ll be welcomed warmly into the rich relaxed ‘Pura Vida’ lifestyle.

Whether you choose between one, two, three, or four-week sessions on any start date listed below, you’ll be sharing the experience with a group of your peers, all ages 14-18, and like you, they’ve decided that dedicating their summer to serving others abroad while learning more about another culture is a pretty cool challenge to take on.

And that healthy dose of adventure you’re craving? Don’t worry, you’ll get that too! We know it’s your summer and you want to have amazing stories and photos of gorgeous landscapes, historic architecture, and your fellow volunteers to share with your friends and family back home.

If I look back at my life and could have even one moment of making the world a better place through work with vulnerable women and children, it would be worthwhile.

I grew up in rural Costa Rica, always grabbing for any educational opportunities and thankful to people, sometimes unknown, who trusted me and offered me a hand to grow. It’s these opportunities that led me to earning a degree in English Literature in the US, as well as opportunities to work in the academic field through the University of Costa Rica and Lawrence University. My experience and commitment to improving my community, country, and world continued through experiences at the United Nations, teaching in Washington D.C., and later, returning to Costa Rica with Cross-Cultural Solutions.

Working with students and volunteers has given me the opportunity to give back to my country and add true meaning to my life. Service and education are the greatest tools you can offer for a global mindset and to be of service to others. Each day, I witness the connection between volunteers and communities through true outreach and connection, and could not imagine doing anything else.
