Volunteer abroad for a fresh perspective

Volunteering with Cross-Cultural Solutions is an incredibly effective way to take a step back and evaluate the path you've chosen. Whether you're interested in taking a career break abroad, you're a recent grad ready to experience the life of an international volunteer, or you're just trying to figure out your next big move, the CCS experience offers you an opportunity to shake things up, and change everything.

In fact, many CCS volunteers return home and make bold decisions to change direction. From new academic endeavors and major career changes, to renewed interest in long forgotten passions, when you volunteer abroad the opportunities for self-discovery and redirection are endless.

Here's how some Cross-Cultural Solutions alums chose to change direction after their experience abroad:

"When I was in my mid-30's, I realized that my life had become too routine and a little boring. I lived in a great city with an active social life, owned my apartment, had a great job, and loved my boss. But something was missing; adventure! So, I enrolled in CCS Bangkok and prepared for the adventure of a lifetime. Once there, I fell in love with the Thai people and culture. I met an English teacher at the school where I volunteered who inspired me every day with her energy and enthusiasm. I had found my calling. After I came back to the U.S., I outlined the steps that I needed to take to turn my dream into a reality. I will be moving to Thailand in a few months."
Chris, volunteer, Thailand

"Since my trip, I've developed a keen interest in U.S. foreign policy and am now considering either changing careers or returning to school to further pursue this interest."
Kimberly, volunteer, Guatemala

"I learned what I want to do with my life and who I am and that was why I went in the first place. You know, it's not about money, it's not about me, it's about helping others. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life."
Erica, volunteer, Costa Rica

"My experience in Thailand helped me realize a passion for international medicine and my desire to make it a big part of my medical career. Before I volunteered with CCS, I was sure that I'd become a surgeon. But now I feel more pulled toward community/public health. The Thai people have taught me that genuinely kind, generous, and magnanimous people still do exist in the world."
Jaime, volunteer, Thailand

"Volunteering with CCS opened my eyes to a whole new realm of possibilities. Just a few months after returning from my CCS experience in Tanzania, I began the Peace Corps application process, and ultimately became a Peace Corps volunteer; something I would never have imagined doing before my CCS experience."
Hannah, volunteer, Tanzania
