What We Did, What It Meant, and What Is Left Behind
Volunteer AbroadWe love hearing stories of volunteers making a meaningful impact on the ground, and we're happy to present the reflections of volunteer Laurie Sutherland of her experience with CCS in Ghana. My two weeks volunteering in Ho, Ghana, was spent doing vision screenings at schools in 2 villages, 30 minutes from our home base. During that time we (5 of us the first week, 4 the second) screened: - 331 people, including a half dozen or so teachers - 21 failed the test, 2 of them teachers.

Long Term Volunteering At Ritsona Refugee Camp
Volunteer AbroadNestled among olive trees and factories, twenty minutes away from the beautiful city of Chalkida in Greece was Ritsona Refugee Camp. Formerly an air force base, Ritsona was funded by the UAE and Red Cross to address the needs of the influx of migrants that entered Greece in 2015. Cross-Cultural Solutions (CCS) manages a distribution center at this camp, where residents are provided with clean water, clothing, tea, and milk. I spent three months in Greece with CCS to help meet the needs of the camp. I was able to learn in-depth about the refugee crisis and see it through my own eyes.
