Peru
"I enjoyed making frequent trips to the nearby bakeries, Internet cafe, grocery stores, and banks. I also went to the zoo, paragliding in Miraflores and to the movies. Many times, I enjoyed reading in the common room and on the roof."Erica Copeland, Peru volunteer
Free-Time in Lima
During their free time, volunteers often visit different neighborhoods throughout Lima, enjoy the beach near the Home-Base, or go to the Indian Market, where artisans come to sell clothing, arts, and crafts. On weekends, many volunteers travel to the city of Cuzco to visit Machu Picchu or travel through more rural parts of Peru, visiting the Andes or nearby towns on the Pacific coast.
Volunteers can also visit unique places around Lima, like the Nazca lines, the ancient city of Caral (the oldest civilization in the Americas, dating back 5,000 years), or Lomas de Lachay to enjoy a day of trekking.
