Rabat is the capital city of Morocco located along the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Bou Regreg River. A modern imperial city, Rabat is filled with beautiful palaces, mosques, and intricate works of art and architecture. While Casablanca, Fes, and Marrakech are more widely known to tourists, Rabat is a friendly city with a laid-back attitude whose people are very accustomed to welcoming international visitors.

Volunteer Work in Rabat

CCS volunteers in Morocco work side-by-side with local people, contributing directly to community-based projects. More than ever, the opportunity to exchange cultures and perspectives is the most important part of our volunteers' work. Most of the organizations where CCS volunteers work focus on supporting and empowering women and children by providing education, employment, and social assistance, such as:

  • Caregiving at orphanages and centers for physically challenged children: Volunteers help the nurses and teachers to provide physical and emotional care and support, and offer much-needed love and attention, to children of various ages.
  • Community-based organizations and pre-schools: Volunteers serve as role models for children, provide educational or recreational activities and teach basic English.
  • Teaching adults: Volunteers teach English to adults and engage in cultural exchange. For volunteers who speak French, there are opportunities to teach computer lessons and other professional skills.

Free Time in Rabat

Rabat is the royal capital city of Morocco, known for its emphasis on history, art, and natural beauty. The Royal Palace, Mamora Forest, and Potter's Village are all favorite travel destinations for visitors. You may also want to visit the Kasbah in Rabat, a picturesque area known for the city's oldest mosques and palaces. White sandy beaches spotted with little settlements and affluent resort towns are accessible right outside of this coastal, cosmopolitan city.

If you are interested in traveling to other parts of Morocco during your free time on weekends, transportation within Morocco is both convenient and safe. Travel to the world-renowned cities of Casablanca, Marrakesh, and Fes are easily accessible by train. Hiking treks through four distinct mountain ranges or camel rides through the Sahara desert are also popular with visitors. Many volunteers also travel before or after their program to Spain.
