Volunteer Work in China

Our volunteer placements in China are all with locally-run organizations, dedicated to improving the lives of Xi'an's residents. CCS volunteers have the flexibility to work side-by-side with local people, from school children to adults. Volunteers working in China may be at local schools or orphanages, English language camps, centers for people with disabilities, and community-based health organizations.

Volunteers in China are involved with the following types of placements

Volunteer Work Placements in China

Volunteer work is always in partnership with one of CCS' Partner Programs from the local community. Your placement is based on your skills, interests, and the needs of the community. Common placements in Xi'an include:

Schools for children with special needs: Volunteers help staff care for children in a daycare-like setting.

English schools: Many volunteers work at a local language training center where they help improve the children's English pronunciation through teaching songs and rhymes.

Regional history museum: Volunteers help teach English to tour guides and staff, translate the museum's literature into English, and tutor English for special purposes.

Medical school for the Chinese army: Volunteers teach English to the students and discuss cultural and current events. Many of the students will go on to use English in their medical work.
