Why Volunteer in Ayacucho?
9,000 feet above sea level, high in the Andes,
Ayacucho has played a pivotal role in Peru's history. Few travelers visit the area, making it a wonderful place to be immersed in the unique Quechua culture of the Peruvian Andes Mountains. More than 1,500 years old, the Quechua culture has its own language, dress, religion, and social system. Many residents
immigrated to Peru's coastal cities looking for work, leaving Ayacucho with few resources. The city has many
opportunities for volunteers to step in and make a meaningful contribution.
Because many residents in Ayacucho lack basic needs like clean water, daycare, education, and healthcare, volunteer placements with our Partner Programs are largely focused on serving the basic needs of community members.
