Program Director - Angelica Hurtarte
Angelica studied English in a bilingual school in Guatemala City and Chemical Engineering at the national university. However, she has devoted most of her life to teaching mathematics in a local high school. After only two years, she became Principal of the school, gaining recognition and respect as a leader in the community. In addition to her commitment to education, Angelica worked for four years as a local volunteer representative for AFS, an international exchange organization, and developed a great program with the international students hosted in her community. Because of her passion and commitment to international exchange, she was offered the position of Sending and Hosting Coordinator with AFS, and she worked with them for five years. After leaving AFS she then worked as Program Coordinator for a local organization that works with at-risk children in the community. Her dedication to international exchange, leadership in the community, and work in both education and social services, made her an outstanding candidate for our expansion to Quetzaltenango.
