Free Time in Quetzaltenango
During your free time, you will want to explore the beautiful colonial city of Quetzaltenango. Within minutes from the Home-Base, you can find the downtown area's local markets, churches, Internet cafes, and more.
On the weekends you can hike nearby volcanoes, visit black sand beaches, take a trip to Chichicastenango-a colorful market town in the highlands of Guatemala, or relax at the hot springs. The colorful Mayan villages and markets of Panajachel, and the stunningly beautiful Lake Atitlan are located just a few hours away. You may also want to visit the incredible Mayan ruins of Tikal in the northern jungle, the former capital city and popular tourist destination, Antigua, or the nation's capital, Guatemala City.
