Volunteer teaching boys in Tanzania.
Teaching children helps create a stimulating learning environment for children from low-income communities. New ideas and energy excite the children and provide much needed encouragement for the teachers and parents. The schools where we work often have very limited resources and can benefit from creative ways to keep children and teenagers engaged and dedicated to learning. Volunteers from other cultures show the value of education to children who may see work as more important than school.
Share Your Ideas with Children around the World
Your ideas, energy, and presence are exciting for students and invigorating for teachers and parents. Children are full of curiosity about the world and they enjoy learning about life through new international role models. Your presence and support also means that students can benefit from more individual attention and a positive role model.
You can serve as a teacher's aide in subjects such as science, music, sports, and drama. Or, you may be teaching educational games, planning arts & crafts, or working alongside local teachers to create new developmentally and culturally appropriate activities for the children. Also, as an English speaker, you will always be informally teaching English.
Examples of Volunteer Work
There are several different ways that you can teach children through Cross-Cultural Solutions:
- Create projects and games to engage the children at a school for orphans in Russia
- Lead daily exercise routines for young children at a community-run pre-school in Thailand
- Share new ideas and life perspectives with junior high school students in Ghana
You do not have to have a background in teaching to help educate children around the world. Sharing your knowledge, energy, and excitement for learning as an international volunteer is enough to make a real difference in children’s lives.
