Volunteer in Peru at health placement.
Provide encouragement and assistance to community organizations offering free or low-cost health services.
Help community members address public health issues in areas with very limited access to basic healthcare. Offer essential support to staff in under-resourced health clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, hospice centers, and other community organizations striving to provide compassionate care and education to the populations they serve. While most volunteer placements do not involve providing direct medical care, both skilled and unskilled volunteers can be effective in supporting overworked staff by providing a helping hand -- allowing more people to be served and have access to basic healthcare. Volunteers may help to improve sanitation and hygiene standards, provide support to under-funded medical clinics through administrative functions, or provide community education on public health issues such as sanitation practices, sexual health, maternity/newborn care, and the prevention of transmittable disease. Volunteers may also help to raise awareness on healthcare issues and provide moral support to patients, residents, and families.
Volunteers from a wide variety of backgrounds are welcome. Placements addressing this need are available in Ghana, Guatemala, India, South Africa, and Tanzania. As part of our placement process, volunteers will receive their placement according to the needs identified by the community.
