CCS highly recommends that all volunteers educate themselves about the country where they will be volunteering to prepare themselves effectively for their volunteer abroad experience. In addition to the Program and Participant Handbooks you receive upon enrollment, which offer a thorough overview of participation in a CCS program, and the CCS Placement Guide, which gives you guidance on how to be an effective volunteer, there are many creative ways to learn about the country and culture where you'll be volunteering.
CCS in-country staff and Program Site Specialists have identified a short list of recommended resources for each of the countries where we operate. There are maps, novels, DVDs, guidebooks, and more to enhance your knowledge of the language, culture, and history, and help you become a more knowledgeable volunteer.
