Travel Medical Insurance

As a participant in a Cross-Cultural Solutions volunteer program, you automatically receive medical insurance through Starr Indemnity and Liability Company and CCS. You are covered for up to $50,000 of in-country medical expenses, medical transportation insurance, and up to 1 million dollars of Medivac insurance. Complete details regarding your coverage can be found in the Insurance Policies FAQ. If you decide to extend your CCS program while in-country, your insurance coverage will be extended automatically upon payment of your program fee.

It is your responsibility to understand your coverage while on the program. If you have questions about the insurance information, please refer to the Insurance Policies FAQ, contact your Program Site Specialist, or send an email to administrator@coretravelinsurance.com.

If you need to seek medical treatment while you are in-country and it is not an emergency, it is your responsibility to pay for the medical bills directly to the health practitioner. You will then file a claim to Health Special Risk for reimbursement. Our staff will help you obtain the proper receipts and offer translation services if necessary.

Extending or Upgrading Your Travel Medical Coverage

This medical coverage is in effect for the dates of your CCS program only. If you plan to continue traveling after your program ends, or if you will arrive in-country before your program begins, you may want to extend coverage to remain protected. You will be able to do so at discounted individual rates. You also have the opportunity to upgrade your coverage to the higher limits of the Silver, Gold, or Diamond Plans, which provide up to $500,000 in combined medical evacuation/transport expense, as well as increased limits for the other benefits.

In order to upgrade, it must be done before your program starts, and you must extend before your program ends—both require paying an additional premium over the cost of the standard insurance. Please note that coverage does not extend to travel within the United States.

Trip Cancellation Insurance

We recommend that you consider purchasing additional trip cancellation insurance to cover the costs of your program fee and flights in the event that you have to cancel your program. A $1000 benefit to cover the risk of cancellation due to illness or injury is automatically included in the Core Travel Medical Insurance Plan, and can be upgraded to $5,000. Although we do not require that you purchase this insurance, it is a safeguard against unforeseen developments and a way of maximizing your financial flexibility.
