Here are some tips for filling out your Causes page form, after designating Cross-Cultural Solutions as the beneficiary.

1. CAUSE NAME

When choosing your Cause name, we suggest using the following words/phrases: “Support,” “Help Me Fundraise,” “Volunteer Abroad,” and/or “International Service.” Be sure to include your name so potential donors know they are contributing to the correct cause.

*Please refrain from using "Cross-Cultural Solutions” or “CCS” when naming your Cause. This is to avoid any misunderstandings for the donor. Your cause name should clearly indicate to any potential donor that their donation is directly assisting you, the volunteer, with your fundraising efforts and indirectly supporting CCS’ mission.

    Examples:

  • Support [your name] to Volunteer Abroad in Brazil!
  • Help [your name] Volunteer Abroad in Peru!

2. MISSION

State your goals! How would you describe this trip in a couple of sentences to a potential donor?

    Examples:

  • My mission is to bring my energy & enthusiasm to community members dedicated to cultural exchange and share my greater understanding, once I return home.
  • Traveling abroad is a lifelong dream and I want to make the most of my experience. I plan to learn the challenges the community of Salvador, Brazil faces and help in any way I can.

3. POSITIONS

Positions are declarative statements describing what you believe in and wish to accomplish with your Volunteer Abroad experience. This is also an opportunity to include links to a blog or webpage.

    Examples:

  • I believe that being able to communicate with my students in their language will motivate them to learn English. I am starting to learn conversational Portuguese to prepare myself for this experience!
  • I believe that people of all ages and abilities deserve to have a compassionate and caring environment that fosters their self-esteem and provides a high quality of life.
  • I am committed to learning more about poverty and helping to address some of the underlying issues that perpetuate the cycle by teaching and inspiring kids to learn.
  • I am committed to documenting my travel through pictures and tweets (twitter.com/GlobalGus1992)
  • I am committed to being a positive role model for the children I am working with, and a respectful ambassador of my community.
  • I believe that respect is an essential aspect of service, therefore I am deferring to the local community experts to identify my volunteer placement; I will serve wherever and however they deem fit!

4. PICTURE

Post a picture of yourself — use a self-portrait or a picture of you travelling.

5. CATEGORY

Select “International,” then choose “Service and Other”

6. GEOGRAPHY

(What region does your cause affect?)
This section allows you to let your potential donors know what region of the world your Cause will affect. Select "Global" or “Other” and choose the country where you have enrolled (or will enroll).

*Please note this field will not be displayed on your public Causes page.

7. DESCRIPTION

Introduce yourself and explain what volunteering abroad means to you. Describe any other reason or purpose behind this trip. Include anecdotes of previous volunteer trips (especially if you are a returning CCS Volunteer).

    Examples:

  • Hi there! My name is Samantha Adams. During a semester abroad in Spain, I learned a lot about what Spanish culture, but I feel like most of my life I’ve been exposed to Central and Latin American Spanish and culture. I want to learn more about Spanish-speaking cultures, and how they differ in language and culture. Since I’ve studied abroad already, I want to now experience volunteering – I think I will really get involved in the community more than as a student, and I look forward to being able to give back!
  • Years ago, my family traveled to the Middle East on vacation and I have been fascinated by the Muslim world since. In my short stay, I really struggled with what I saw, the disparity between the wealthier districts and the underdeveloped areas in countries that are so devout and care so deeply about charitable behavior. I know that these issues of disparity are rampant in many countries, so I am going to volunteer in Morocco to learn more about community development, understand how religion plays a role, and be of service.
  • I have never traveled overseas, but have always been interested in understanding the slave trade and this volunteer experience in Ghana will support my studies in African American history and folklore by giving me greater insight into the roots of slavery and the many cultural backgrounds that were brought to America and contribute to African American culture today.
  • I have always wanted to be a teacher, but I went into the corporate world instead. As a volunteer with CCS, I am looking forward to using my skills to teach in China. English is a highly marketable skill and I look forward to sharing what I know to support people who are seeking to gain new skills and foster a better quality of life for themselves.
