How it Works

  • Submit up to 5 photos on the Photo Contest tab on our Facebook page that best capture the many faces of the CCS Experience.
  • CCS panel of judges will choose 50 finalists based on the quality of the photo, impact of the image, and focus on people-to-people cultural exchange and post them on the Contest Entries tab.
  • The public will vote from the 50 finalists to determine the top 3 winners.

Timeline

  • Submissions will be accepted between Monday, September 12th, 2011, 10:00 a.m. EST and Monday, October 24th, 2011, 6:00 p.m. EST.
  • Panel of judges at CCS will choose the top 50 finalists.
  • Public voting for the top 3 winners will begin on Monday, October 31st, 2011, 10:00 a.m. EST.
  • Voting closes on Monday, November 14th, 2011, 6:00 p.m. EST.  Voters may vote once per photo.
  • Top 3 winners will be announced on the Photo Contest tab on our Facebook page.
  • All winners will be contacted by phone or email by Friday, November 18th, 2011.

How To Submit Your Photo

  • Be sure all photos contain your name, where you volunteered, and the year you volunteered in the properties of the photo. To update photo properties right click on your photo on your computer, click on “Properties,” then click on “Summary” and enter all information in the Title or Comments field.
  • Like our Facebook Page! You must "like" our Page to enter the photo contest.
  • Click the "Enter Contest" button on our Photo Contest tab on our Facebook page.
  • Fill out the brief contest form and upload your photo. To submit multiple entries, please fill out a form for each photo.

 Prizes

  • First place winner receives a complimentary CCS Insight Abroad program.
  • Second place winner receives a $750 voucher.
  • Third place winner receives a $500 voucher.
  • Honorable Mentions each receive a $250 voucher.
  • All prizes are good towards any CCS program through 2012. See official rules for more details.

Official Rules

  • ELIGIBILITY The contest is open to all former and current Cross-Cultural Solutions volunteers. Staff, immediate family members of current staff, and former staff members of CCS are not eligible to enter. Any photograph that has previously won a competition, been selected as a finalist in a past CCS Photo Contest, been published, or sold to any party for reproduction, cannot be entered.
  • Each photographer may submit up to 5 photos, but only 1 photo per entrant may be selected as a finalist.
    Photographs must be submitted in their original size, file resolution must be a minimum of 72dpi but preference is given to 300 dpi, recommended size is 1500 x 2100 pixels. Maximum unloadable photo size is 3MB. Entrants may be asked to submit a higher quality photo, if available.
  • Photographs must adhere to CCS’ Photography and Social Media policy.
  • Photographs should contain your Name, CCS Country volunteered, and year volunteered in the properties of the photo. On your computer, right click the photo, click “Properties,” then “Summary,” and enter the information in the Title or Comments field.
  • Photographs must represent some aspect of the CCS Experience — Volunteer Work, Local People, Cultural & Learning Activities, Free Time or Weekend Activities.
  • Photographs must have been taken by a CCS volunteer on a CCS program. Only the original photographer has the right to submit his or her own photos.
  • Entrants will be notified if photographs do not meet the eligibility criteria and another chance will be given to re-submit. Photos that do not meet criteria by the end of the submission period will not be considered for prizes.
    Entrants that are selected as a top 3 winner will not be eligible for additional prizes.
  • JUDGING: CCS panel of judges will choose 50 finalists based on the quality of the photo, impact of the photo, and focus on people-to-people cultural exchange.
  • VOTING: The top 3 winners will be chosen by public voting from the top 50 finalists on CCS’ Facebook page. Voters may vote once per photo. The top 3 photos with the most votes will be the winners.
  • HONORABLE MENTIONS: Honorable Mentions will be announced after the top 3 winners are announced. Honorable Mentions will be chosen on the quality of the photo, impact of the photo, and focus on one or more of the photo categories.

General Terms

  • By entering the Cross-Cultural Solutions (CCS) photo contest, the entrant has agreed to these Terms. CCS is not responsible for technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to the malfunctioning of any computer, cable, network, hardware, software, or website. CCS is not responsible for lost, interrupted or unavailable network server or other connections, miscommunications, failed telephone or computer or telephone transmissions or technical failure, jumbled, scrambled or misdirected transmissions, for incorrect or inaccurate entry information, howsoever caused, or other error of any kind whether human, mechanical or electronic.
  • Entrants found tampering with or abusing any aspect of the photo contest, as solely determined by the judges, will be disqualified. If disqualified for any of the above abuses, CCS reserves the right to terminate entrant’s eligibility to participate in the photo contest.
  • Any attempt by any person to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of the photo contest may be in violation of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, CCS reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. CCS’ failure to enforce any term of these Terms or Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.
  • CCS reserves the right to terminate, cancel, suspend and/or modify the photo contest if fraud, virus or other problem corrupts the administration, security, or proper play of the photo contest, as determined by CCS in its sole discretion.

Prizes

  • All prizes have no cash value, cannot be transferred, cannot be combined with any other external scholarships or grants, cannot be applied toward the purchase of airfare or other travel expenses (visa, immunizations, etc.) and must be redeemed for a start date between November 14th, 2011 and the last available start date in 2012. Failure to redeem prizes by the end of 2012 will result in forfeiture.
  • The complimentary Insight Abroad program as listed in our Terms & Conditions can be applied toward a longer volunteer program including the Volunteer Abroad (2-12 week) program and the Intern Abroad (3-12 week) program. The applied value of the Insight Abroad program will vary depending on the start date chosen.
  • When redeeming the complimentary Insight Abroad program, the deposit will be waived if the voucher is redeemed as the prize is stated. If additional weeks are added, and a balance is owed, the winner must put down a $275 deposit. For winners of the $750 voucher and under, a deposit is required in accordance with our enrollment policy, and discounts can be applied as outlined below.
  • Double or single occupancy room fees still apply in accordance to our Double and Single Occupancy Room Policy, and are not included in the complimentary Insight Abroad program.
  • Discounts: Alumni, Outreach, Alumni (4+ programs) and Regional Advocate discounts can be used when enrolling in a two week or longer volunteer program as outlined on our Discounts page.
  • If the value of all discounts applied exceeds the value of program fee costs, CCS will not issue a refund.
  • Once winner has redeemed the prize and enrolled in a start date, entrants cannot switch start dates, unless authorized by a CCS staff member. Any approved switches will require a switch fee according to our Switch Policy.

Rights

  • CCS reserves the right to publish any entry and/or use any entry in related promotional material and related CCS products.
  • CCS reserves the right to extend or retract the timeline as necessary with advance notice to all photo contest participants.
  • CCS reserves the right to disqualify any photo that does not meet the contest criteria or is deemed inappropriate. 
  • By submitting photos for consideration, the photographer grants CCS the rights to reproduction and exhibition of all images submitted. These rights include, but are not limited to: publishing photographs in print and electronic form and use of the images for related promotional purposes without further compensation.
  • The entrant also confirms that she or he is the photographer and owns all rights to any photograph entered in this contest. Accordingly, the entrant hereby agrees to compensate CCS fully regarding any claims that arise out of the use of the photograph(s).
  • The photographer consents to the entry of his or her submission and agrees to abide by the contest Terms & Rules.
