Organize a Special Event

Organize a pen-pal program between a local school and a school overseas. Epals.com is a free program that facilitates online pen-pal connections and provides activities that students can use to learn about other cultures.

Another fun way to raise awareness in your community is to organize a "Famine for a Night.” During a “Famine for a Night,” a group of people fasts for 24 hours to talk about world hunger and collect donations for organizations that address this issue.

Practice Ethical Consumerism

Buying things that are made ethically by companies that act ethically encourages sustainable business practices, and discourages companies that ignore the social and environmental consequences of their actions.

  • Go to www.ethicalconsumer.org and learn their 10 shopping tips for the ethical consumer
  • Visit Global Goods Partners who are dedicated to alleviating poverty, promoting social justice, and strengthening women-led development initiatives for marginalized communities in Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
  • Purchase products labeled as "Fair Trade" which encourages farmers to reinvest in their products, cooperatives, and communities while allowing them to receive a fair, above-market price for their goods. Find Fair Trade Certified retailers in your area by visiting:
    • transfairusa.org
    • transfair.ca
    • fairtrade.org

    Carbon Offsetting with Climate Care

CCS offsets all of the carbon emissions produced by staff flights and we encourage you to consider doing the same. “Offsetting” means reducing CO2 in the atmosphere by the same amount that your flight adds by contributing financially to projects such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, and reforestation.

Climate Care is an organization established in 1998 as a company dedicated to reducing global warming.

    Support Your Cause Financially

You can support many organizations working for positive global change. Visit the following websites to find organizations, or donate:

Although some alumni would like to directly support the Partner Program where they volunteered with financial or material donations, CCS prohibits this. As part of our vision, CCS encourages alumni to stay involved and take action in other ways. For more information, please refer to our Donations & Gift-Giving Policy.
