CCS volunteers in Thailand get the chance to immerse themselves in a country known for its scenic diversity, ancient traditions, Buddhist culture, unique architectural design, and friendly nature. "Thailand," or "Land of the Free," and is the only country in Southeast Asia that has never been colonized. Though Thailand is a very industrious country, its favorite phrases are mai pen rai, or “no worries” and sanuk, or “enjoy and have a good time.”

SUPHANBURI, THAILAND

Just over 60 miles outside of Bangkok, Suphanburi means “city of gold.” Located amongst vast low river plains and small mountain ranges, Suphanburi is a central province of Thailand. Full of ancient history and natural wonders, Suphanburi dates back to the 9th century and boasts beautiful local sites such as the Phu Mueng Forest Park and the Bueng Chawak Zoo and Aquarium. Volunteers will have the opportunity to experience the laid-back pace and close-knit nature of a rural Thai village community, while also being near to local shops, markets, schools, and temples.

Volunteer Work: Volunteer placements in Suphanburi are with locally-run organizations and projects. The volunteer work on Teen Volunteer Abroad programs is always a group-based project, designed to be completed within the program dates. These projects may include working together to plan arts & crafts and recreational activities for children in daycare centers, teaching conversational English to children in classrooms or English camps, or helping to create promotional materials for local organizations, such as maps and brochures.

Cultural & Learning Activities: These activities may include an in-depth orientation, a city/village tour, insightful discussions with staff and local experts on cultural norms, and visits to local handicraft markets. Excursions are also offered and may include a trip to Buffalo Village, the Rice Farmer National Museum, or one of the many local historical sites of Suphanburi.

Free Time: There will be time in the afternoons and evenings to rest and relax in the CCS Home-Base with fellow teen volunteers. CCS also arranges optional, staff-accompanied activities to explore the community and culture. The groups are supported and supervised by CCS in-country staff at all times. Local sites of interest include caves, waterfalls, bird parks, fish sanctuaries, and a crocodile farm.

Home-Base in Suphanburi: The CCS Home-Base is located in a peaceful, rural village community, Bang Mae Mai, within a small resort hotel. The Home-Base is reserved exclusively for teens, and rooms are separated by gender. Meals at the CCS Home-Base will reflect local cuisine.
