Volunteering abroad is not your typical internship. With a Cross-Cultural Solutions international internship, you’ll be working toward important community goals while also gaining practical and applicable experience in Education, Health, or Social Services. However, keep in mind that living and volunteering abroad with CCS will undoubtedly provide an opportunity to learn about a country’s culture, customs, history, and challenges regardless of the program you choose. It is possible to gain valuable hands-on experience, or even academic credit, by participating in the Volunteer Abroad program. Read on to find out if the Intern Abroad program is what you’re looking for.
The Intern Abroad Program May Be a Good Fit If You:
- Want international work experience in the fields of Education, Health, or Social Services
- Need a built-in academic guidance from start to finish to keep you on track toward achieving your learning objectives
- Would benefit from a built-in academic structure to more smoothly apply your experience in an educational setting, such as obtaining academic credit, earning volunteer hours, etc.
- Have specific learning goals that you want to base your volunteering experience around such as “Public Health Administration in Guatemala,” “ HIV/AIDS Services in South Africa,” or “Promoting Mobility in Seniors in Peru”
- Want to culminate your experience with an intern project such as a presentation or academic paper
The Intern Abroad Program May Not Be a Good Fit If You:
- Don’t have an interest in Education, Health, or Social Services
- Don’t have specific learning objectives
- Don’t need an academic structure, or want to be responsible for a summary project
- Want to “guarantee” a volunteer placement — No placement is ever guaranteed as all placements are based on your skills and interests and the immediate needs of the community at the time of volunteering
- Are interested in living, working, and learning in another culture, but have no need for an academic component
