If you're thinking about volunteering abroad with Cross-Cultural Solutions, and looking for financial support to do so, scholarships, grants, or stipends may be available.

Funding for volunteering abroad has traditionally been very limited, obtained through individual fundraising or matching gifts programs. However, below are a few scholarships and grant programs offered throughout the year by a variety of institutions who share the CCS commitment to international service and learning. Please check their websites for updates on deadlines.

  • Travelocity's Change Ambassador Grant Program - Up to $5,000 is available for people of all ages interested in volunteering abroad with CCS to cover the program fee and other travel expenses. Travelocity provides this funding as part of their "Travel For Good" initiative.
  • Volunteers for Prosperity Service Incentive Program (VFPServ) – $500 to $1,000 matching grants are available to offset travel, insurance, and local expenses for skilled American professionals volunteering abroad. CCS is recognized as an eligible international volunteer organization participating in the program. Contact a Program Advisor today for advice on submitting your application and fundraising for the matching grant.
  • The National Geographic Glimpse Correspondents Program is offering $600 stipends to US residents aged 18-30, who have a special talent for storytelling through writing, photography, or video.
  • Go! Overseas is sponsoring a scholarship program for people who want to volunteer abroad. Enter a creative and thoughtful writing sample and/or video submission for your chance to win a $1000 scholarship toward your CCS program! Entries are due by September 15th, 2012. Find out more or apply now.

University Scholarships or Grants may also be available for students to volunteer abroad. Funding may be available for students gaining academic credit for their service-learning internship, but funding specifically for students volunteering abroad with CCS is also available through:

  • The University of Minnesota, Learning Abroad: Community Engagement Scholars Program
  • Emory University, Center for International Programs Abroad: UPGRADE Grant
  • University of Georgia, Foundation Fellows: Travel-Study Grants

We encourage you to also look into resources available through your personal memberships and affiliations, and especially through fraternal groups, colleges, and universities. Individual fundraising efforts and matching gifts programs have also been helpful ways to fund volunteering abroad as well.

Please contact a Program Advisor with your questions on financing your volunteer abroad experience with CCS.
