Young boy painting in China

China

As a volunteer with CCS in China, you will enjoy working side-by-side with local people and learning about one of the world's most ancient and unique cultures. Today, people visiting China enjoy the architectural remains of ancient heritage, such as The Great Wall of China, the Grand Canal, Forbidden Palace, and Temple of Heaven, as well as modern art and culture in its large urban centers. China — home to 56 ethnic groups and over 1.3 billion people — is the world's fourth-largest country, spanning 9.6 million square kilometers of Eastern Asia.

India

As a volunteer in India with CCS, you’ll explore the country’s infinite layers of history, religion, and politics. India is home to 18 languages, 500 dialects, 30 religions, and over a billion people. India’s history dates back more than 5,000 years.

From Gandhi to modern activists, India is known for social activism and a culture of resilience when faced with adversity. CCS was founded in this environment of social change in New Delhi in 1995. Today, thousands of volunteers have experienced volunteering abroad in India through CCS, and contributed to the work of many important community initiatives in the regions of New Delhi and Dharamsala.

Thailand

As a volunteer with CCS in Thailand, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in a country known for its scenic diversity, ancient traditions, Buddhist culture, unique architectural design, and friendly nature. Bordered by Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia, "Thailand" means "Land of the Free" and is the only country in Southeast Asia that has never been colonized. Thailand is a place of contrasts — two of its most renowned pursuits are tranquil meditation and aggressive kickboxing, and although it’s a very industrious country, its favorite phrases are mai pen rai, or “no worries” and sanuk, or “enjoy and have a good time.”

“The program is perfectly balanced to let us gain an understanding and respect for the culture and community where we are working, letting us explore on our own, and giving us the opportunity to feel like we're making a difference. I think that if I had gone over just as a volunteer something would have been lost!”

Ann Lynn, China
