Working Vacations

by Bob Tedeschi

For some people, it just isn't a vacation if there isn't a little work involved.

Chalk it up to middle-age travelers seeking a reprise of their junior year abroad, or vacationers wanting a Peace Corps-in-miniature experience. Whatever the reason, the number of people looking for volunteer or educational trips is growing, according to those who organize them.

It isn't clear if the Internet has helped fuel that growth or simply responded to it. But it is certain that those interested in such travel opportunities in the pre-Web days would have had to do a lot more work to find the right fit...

Both Cross-Cultural Solutions and SCI International Voluntary Service have fast, generally user-friendly Web sites, with Cross-Cultural Solutions being the more refined of the two.
