The Year Out Group (YOG) is a UK-based umbrella organization dedicated to providing quality opportunities, resources, and support to people planning their “year out,” or “gap year.” Cross-Cultural Solutions is proud to be one of only 35 organizations worldwide to be included as a member of the organization.
YOG was founded in 1998 as a reaction to the rise in year-out participants in the UK during the 1980s and 1990s. The mission of YOG is to "help young people discover and deliver their full potential" and member organizations must support the same goal. Several other measures must also be in place, such as having trained staff who provide professional consumer support, financial stability, updated organizational literature, and high ethical standards, including protecting the environment and respecting local cultures.
