Mobility International USA (MIUSA) is a not-for-profit organization that empowers “people with disabilities around the world to achieve their human rights through international exchange and international development.” Cross-Cultural Solutions shares the goal of making international volunteering accessible to anyone who wants to give their time. CCS works with MIUSA to share our expertise in international volunteering programs, and our experiences working with volunteers who have disabilities. CCS also benefits from collaborating with MIUSA by learning about best practices in addressing the unique needs of people with disabilities effectively. Together, CCS and MIUSA set goals for increasing accessibility and promoting participation in international volunteer programs for people with disabilities.
Founded in 1981, MIUSA serves those with cognitive, hearing, learning, psychiatric, physical, systemic, vision, and other disabilities. The organization also manages the National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange (NCDE), a U.S. State Department project, funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The clearinghouse is offered as resource for people with disabilities with information on everything from different international opportunities to funding tips.
