In the summer of 2001, CARE and Cross-Cultural Solutions formed a partnership to give individuals interested in international development the chance to go into the field and learn about the work of CARE. CCS was chosen by CARE for this partnership because of our unique model for international volunteering.
CARE is one of the world's largest international humanitarian organizations, working in over 60 countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Together CARE and CCS seek to achieve lasting solutions to poverty by working with people, families, and communities to help achieve their potential, preserve their environment, and overcome the greatest threats to their survival and rights.
CARE Corps is a program for groups interested in experiencing new places, interacting with different cultures, and learning about the challenges faced by underserved communities. Through sessions with CARE staff and visits to CARE projects, participants gain an in-depth perspective about causes of and solutions to poverty, while witnessing CARE's work in action. CARE Corps participants are based in a country where CARE works and volunteer with local people in a variety of community-based service projects. These are grassroots projects that are relevant and meaningful to the community, and which complement CARE's poverty-fighting work.
